Privacy policy

SetScribe is a workout log for Android. This page explains what it stores about you, why, who else handles it, and how to delete it. Last updated 28 October 2026.

Who we are

SetScribe is an independent app. In this policy “SetScribe”, “we” and “us” mean the developer of the app, who decides how your data is used. You can reach us at speakliftapp@gmail.com.

What we collect

  • Your account. Your email address and a password, which our sign-in provider stores in hashed form; we never see it.
  • Your training. The workouts, sets, routines and custom exercises you log, and settings that change how SetScribe reads your logs, such as exercise names you corrected and your rest preferences.
  • Your profile. If you use Friends: a username, an optional display name, your weekly goal, your unit, the badges you pin, whether you share your training, and your list of friends and friend requests.
  • Voice logging records. For each voice or text log we keep a fingerprint of the transcript (a one-way hash, not the words), the exercise names the app heard and what they were matched to, so corrections can teach it your vocabulary.
  • Request records. To stop abuse we record requests to some features with your account ID or IP address and the time, and only recent ones count toward a limit. Our hosting provider also keeps standard server logs, which include IP addresses.

We don’t collect your contacts, photos or advertising ID, and the app has no advertising or analytics SDKs. Your location never reaches us either: the gym pin described below stays on your phone.

If you pin your gym, the app saves that place on your phone only, and Android tells the app when you arrive or leave so Spot can remind you to log. The pin is never sent to us. Remove it in Settings → Your gym and it’s gone from the phone.

Voice and typed workouts

SetScribe asks for the microphone only when you first tap record. When you log by voice, the recording is sent to our server and then to Groq, an AI provider, which turns it into text and then into exercises and sets. A workout you type goes to Groq the same way.

Our server holds the recording in memory only while it is processed and does not store the recording or the transcript. You see the result and confirm it before anything is saved to your log. Groq processes the data under its own terms and privacy policy.

When Groq is busy, the text of what you said (never the recording) goes to Google’s Gemini instead, to be turned into sets. On Gemini’s free service, Google may use that text to improve its products. It contains your exercises, weights and reps, not your name or email.

How we use it

  • To run the app: keep your log, sync it across your devices, work out your records, streaks and badges, and turn speech into sets.
  • To improve how SetScribe recognises your exercise names, using the corrections you make.
  • To show your profile and training to the friends you have accepted.
  • To keep the service secure and stop abuse.
  • To send account emails you ask for, such as confirming your address or resetting your password.

We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers. Where data protection law asks for a legal basis, we rely on providing the service you signed up for and, for security, our legitimate interest in keeping it safe.

Friends and profiles

Anyone signed in to SetScribe who knows your username can send you a friend request. Only people you accept can open your profile. With sharing on, friends see your name, username, badges, weekly bar, best lifts and workouts with their exercises and sets. They never see your notes, your email address or your voice data.

Switch sharing to private in Edit profile and friends see only your name and username. Removing a friend stops both of you seeing each other’s training.

Who processes it

We use these service providers to run SetScribe. Each handles your data only to provide its service to us.

  • Supabase stores your account, training and profile, and handles sign-in and account emails.
  • Vercel hosts our server and this website.
  • Groq turns voice recordings and typed workouts into text and sets.
  • Google Gemini turns the text of a workout into sets when Groq is busy.

These providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States and Singapore, where data protection rules may differ. We may also disclose data if the law requires it.

On your phone

SetScribe keeps a copy of your log on your phone so it works without signal, along with your app settings and your sign-in session. Deleting your account clears its data from the phone. Signing out keeps it on the phone so it’s there when you sign back in; uninstalling the app removes it all.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and training until you delete them. Deleting a workout removes it straight away. Deleting your account removes your account, workouts, routines, custom exercises, profile, friendships and voice logging records. Request records hold only an account ID or IP address, a feature name and a time, and are deleted automatically within about a day. Our providers may keep backups and server logs for a limited time under their own retention schedules.

Your choices and rights

  • Delete everything in the app: Settings → Delete account and data. It cannot be undone.
  • Correct or remove any workout, routine or profile detail in the app at any time.
  • Make your training private from Edit profile, or remove friends.
  • Ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct, restrict or delete it, by emailing speakliftapp@gmail.com. We reply within 30 days.

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to object to how we use your data and to complain to your local data protection authority.

Security

Data travels over encrypted connections. The app never talks to the database directly: every request goes through our server, which checks who you are and returns only your own data or what your friends share with you. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t promise your data will never be exposed, but we work to protect it.

Children

SetScribe is not meant for children under 13, or under the minimum age in your country, and we don’t knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has an account, email us and we will delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change affects how your existing data is used in a significant way, we will tell you in the app before it applies.
